What are date rape drugs?

GHB - Gamma-hydroxybutyrate. It’s usually in the form of a clear liquid. It’s made from a floor degreaser / stripper, mixed with drain cleaner. It starts to affect the body in 15 minutes. It induces Nausea, convulsions, reduced inhibitions, loss of consciousness. Mixed with alcohol, it can make your central nervous system shut down. It lasts about 8 hours.

Rohypnol (roofies). Roofies are often dropped in beverages in a pill form. Dissolves rapidly leaving no strange taste or odor. After 10 minutes the victim may feel dizzy and disoriented, nauseous, have hot and cold flashes ... then the person may have difficulty thinking or speaking and pass out. Victims have no memory after taking the drug.

Ketamine (Special K). ”Special K” is administered in a pill, tablet or powder form. Fast acting general anesthetic often used by veterinarians. Like GHB, found in clubs and raves. Ketamine creates impaired judgment, paranoia, numbness, amnesia, convulsions, and respiratory depression, large doses can lead to oxygen starvation of the brain. Users generally do not fully recover from the drug for up to 48 hours.

  • Notify authorities.
  • Seek medical attention immediately.

How do I prevent it from happening to me?

  • Never leave your drink unattended. Don’t turn your back.
  • Do not accept open drinks from ANYONE, even a bartender. If he has to open it, have him do it in front of you.
  • Be wary about accepting drinks from people you don’t know or trust yet.
  • Attend parties with trusted friends.
  • If you arrive as a group, leave as a group.
  • If you think you have been a victim, notify the authorities immediately.
